Proposed White House Order Would Track Undocumented Residents Via Census

A draft executive order currently under consideration by the White House would – for the first time – mandate census workers to ask respondents about their immigration status.

The mandate is embedded in a section of the Jan. 23 proposed order: “Protecting American Jobs and Workers by Strengthening the Integrity of Foreign Worker Visa Programs.” India-West previously reported on the draft order, which aims to reform H-1B, L-1, and OPT programs.

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco district attorney’s office is sending a message to Mexican crime victims: regardless of their immigration status, they should feel safe reporting crimes to local law enforcement.

In renewal of an agreement initially signed five years ago, San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón and San Francisco Consul General of Mexico Gemi José González López signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this week that the D.A.’s office and the Mexican consulate will work together to protect and support crime victims and witnesses who come forward.

H-1B Petitions Premium Processing for All Temporarily Suspended

Starting April 3, 2017, USCIS will temporarily suspend premium processing for all H-1B petitions. This suspension may last up to 6 months. While H-1B premium processing is suspended, petitioners will not be able to file Form I-907, Request for Premium Processing Service for a Form I-129, Petition for a Nonimmigrant Worker which requests the H-1B nonimmigrant classification. We will notify the public before resuming premium processing for H-1B petitions.
